HYDERABAD: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was given a warm send-off at the end of his two-day trip to the city at the Begumpet airport on Monday. He left for Tirupati. Governor Rameshwar Thakur and senior officials, including Director-General of Police M.A. Basith, Hyderabad Collector R.V. Chandravadan and Principal Secretary (Political) C.R. Biswal, were present, according to an official release.
BCs plea to Shekhawat
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Association has sought the Mr. Shekhawat's intervention in solving problems faced by the BCs. President R. Krishnaiah said in a statement issued here on Monday that a delegation of the association submitted a memorandum to Mr. Shekhawat to take initiative in ensuring social justice to BCs. It alleged that both the Centre and States were doing `injustice' to BCs. The memorandum wanted political reservations, a separate ministry for BC welfare and setting up of a BC commission.
Personal visit
Earlier, the Vice-President had on Monday visited the residence of Prem Singh Rathod, former MLA and president, city unit of BJP. Mr. Shekhawat spent about 10 minutes with Mr. Rathod's family Party sources said Mr. Shekhawat had made it to the former MLA's house on a personal notebecause he was unable to attend the wedding.
