HYDERABAD: The city police will initiate measures to ensure that police verification of passport applicants is done in a smooth manner. Special counters are to be set up in the commissionerate so that verification is taken up without delay, Commissioner of Police Balwinder Singh said here on Monday. Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ), Mr. Singh said details were being worked out with officials of the Regional Passport Office.
Awards
During his hour-long interaction with journalists, Mr. Singh said awards would be given every month to a constable, a Sub-Inspector, an Inspector and a civilian for their crucial role in maintenance of law and order and for exemplary honesty. At the same time, misconduct on part of any police personnel would be dealt with sternly. He said that the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 4.1 crores last year and Rs. 10 crores this year to the police of Hyderabad and Cyberabad under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission. Proposals to utilise Rs. 2.6 crores had been were sent to the Centre.
Scientific investigation
To effectively utilise scientific investigative methods, two policemen in each police station would be trained in lifting fingerprints. Terming white-collar offence as another priority area, the Commissioner said action would be initiated to attach the properties accumulated by the accused.Checking drunken driving would be accorded priority. Ten breath analysers were available and efforts were on to acquire 35 more. Taking cue from their counterparts in Cyberabad, the city police had decided to impose fine on traffic rule violators through e-challan system.
