HYDERABAD:
An eight-member Central team arrived here on Monday night to assess the drought conditions in Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, Chittoor and Anantapur districts and recommend assistance. The team headed by A. K. Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, was received by Disaster Management officials at the airport.
Disaster Management Commissioner Preeti Sudan will make a presentation on the conditions to the team at Lakeview guesthouse on Tuesday morning before it proceeds for field visits in the affected areas in two groups on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The groups will return to the capital for a wrap-up meeting with the Chief Minister on Thursday before leaving for Delhi.
Ms Sudan later said that the Government had declared 298 mandals in 10 districts as drought-hit and allowed special assistance under Calamities Relief Fund to tackle drinking water/fodder shortage, etc.
However, Mahabubnagar, Anantapur, Chittoor and Kurnool were found to be severely affected.
The other districts were Kadapa, Prakasam, Medak, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy and Srikakulam.
