Court order set aside in missile deal scam case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday set aside a lower court order allowing defence dealer Suresh Nanda to visit Britain and Dubai for business purposes this month.

Revision petition

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the role of Mr. Nanda in the Barak missile deal scam case during the National Democratic Alliance regime.

Allowing a revision petition by the CBI challenging the lower court order, Justice Ravindra Bhat said Mr. Nanda could not be allowed to leave the country at this stage as the investigation was in preliminary stages.

Counsel for the CBI submitted that it had registered a case against Mr. Nanda last year for allegedly receiving a kickback of Rs. 100 crores in the missile deal.

He submitted that if the accused was permitted to go abroad, he might tamper with evidence and manipulate his bank accounts in foreign banks.

He further submitted that the presence of Mr. Nanda in the country was necessary to verify certain documents in connection with the deal that the agency was expecting to find out whether any public servant was bribed in the deal.
