Literacy campaign

BANGALORE: As many as 175 artistes will perform street plays, skits and songs in every village across the State for the next 10 days to spread awareness about literacy, said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the launch of the State-level Suvarna Literacy Campaign here on Monday. A 12-member team trained artistes in street plays from February 1 to February 4 in all districts, he said.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S. Horatti, Large and Medium Scale Industries Minster Katta Subramanya Naidu and Health and Family Welfare Minister R. Ashok were present. On Tuesday, the Bangalore City Literacy Samiti will inaugurate it in the city at noon at the Gandhinagar Sai Baba Kalyana Mantapa in Srirampuram. As many as 120 artistes from 10 teams will conduct street plays at the more than 500 slums in the city to spread awareness about literacy and health over the next few days.
