Garud to be deployed
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
The Garud commando force of the Indian Air Force (IAF) will be deployed at Yelahanka Air Station during the air show to "strengthen security and be prepared for contingencies". The force will also guard some sensitive areas of the airfield.
Though the IAF says it does not want to "hype" the issue of security, it is taking no chances. On Sunday, an unidentified object found at one of the exhibition halls was destroyed in a controlled explosion in an isolated part of the airfield. All vehicles will have their undersides scanned at the entry.
IAF and the Indian Army bomb disposal squads will be on standby and the army has deployed personnel to handle contingencies. The State police will also be deployed.
