Cyriac Joseph's remark: advice to advocates

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) has yet again directed the advocates not to participate in any public function in which Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph participates.

This decision follows a remark by Mr. Cyriac Joseph in Mysore on Saturday during the inauguration of a court building that some advocates with criminal background were elected to the Bar Council and the association.

The KSBC office-bearers met at the council headquarters on KGID premises and discussed the issue. The clarification by Mr. Cyriac Joseph sent through the Registrar-General was also placed before the meeting.

Several members pointed out that this was the second time in the last few months that Mr. Cyriac Joseph had made adverse comments on the advocates.

They said that Mr. Cyriac Jospeh had at a function a few months ago in Hassan made certain remarks against advocates.

The KSBC had then taken exception to his remark and directed the advocates to stay away from functions in which Mr. Cyriac Joseph participated.

The controversy had died down after Mr. Cyriac Joseph clarified his statement at a function held at the Karnataka Judicial Academy in Bangalore.

The members, who met under the stewardship of KSBC president Y.R. Sadashiva Reddy, passed a resolution directing the advocates to stay away from functions in which Mr. Cyriac Joseph participates.

Meanwhile, several advocates expressed unhappiness over the remark.
