Deepan wins fifth game against Humpy

VISAKHAPATNAM: J. Deepan Chakkravarthy scored his first full point in the Vizag Challenger Trophy against Koneru Humpy in the fifth game of the eight-game contest between the two GMs, at the VUDA Children's Theatre here on Tuesday.

"Time pressure cost me the game", said Humpy after the game. She leads the contest 3.5 points to 1.5 points.

Deepan went for the King's Indian defence and Humpy opted the fianchetto setup. She enjoyed Queen side space advantage from the opening move but took time on the 12th move (rook A3).

She was in an advantageous position and Deepan gained advantage after sacrificing a pawn. Humpy made a blunder on the 31st move and resigned on the 40th move. — Special Correspondent
