CPI lays siege to CTO office

Rise in prices of essential commodities decried

  • `Hoarding by black marketers leading to price rise'
  • Price control mechanism, regular raids sought

KADAPA: CPI functionaries locked the Commercial Taxes Office here on Tuesday after sending out officials and staff and picketed it demanding steps to contain steep rise in prices of essential commodities.

CPI State leader Prema Pavani alleged that hoarding by black marketers caused temporary shortage of commodities, but the Government was unconcerned. She sought a price control mechanism. Action against erring traders would not have led to the present situation, she observed. She demanded supply of cereals, tamarind, chillies, oil and onions through fair price shops.

CPI district secretary G. Obulesu demanded that the Government convene meetings with Chamber of Commerce, vegetable, kirana merchants and meat vendors associations and take steps to regulate prices. Kadapa I Town Circle Inspector V. Narayanaswamy promised to arrange such a meeting on February 8.
