Ranadeb Bose voted the best

Tiwary, Ashwin rewarded at Ceat awards function

JUST REWARD: Ranadeb Bose, a key player in Bengal's good show, was chosen the Domestic Cricketer of the Year at the Ceat awards on Tuesday.

Mumbai: Bengal's star performers this season — Ranadeb Bose (57 wickets from eight Ranji Trophy matches) and Manoj Tiwary (796 runs in seven Ranji matches) were presented the Ceat Indian Domestic Cricketer of the Year and Indian Domestic Batsman award respectively at the Ceat Domestic Cricket Awards function at the Brabourne Stadium here on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who had 31 wickets in four matches in his debut season, won the Indian Domestic Bowler of the Year award, while Mumbai's middle-order batsman, Rohit Sharma, was adjudged the Most Promising Youngster of the Year.

Yesteryear left-arm spinner Rajinder Goel was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian cricket.

Gavaskar's pat

The Domestic Ratings adjudicator, Sunil Gavaskar said "Domestic cricketers, the backbone of Indian cricket have seldom been felicitated for all their efforts and achievements till date. Recognising this need it's good that this initiative has been taken both to give recognition and encouragement to India's domestic cricketers".

Shadow Indian team: Robin Uthappa, Pankaj Dharmani, Manoj Tiwary, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Tehlan, M.S.K. Prasad, Ranadeb Bose, R. Ashwin, Joginder Sharma, Rajesh Pawar and Rudra Pratap Singh.

The award winners (all domestic):

Indian Cricketer of the Year 2006-07: Ranadeb Bose (Bengal, cash prize Rs. 2 lakh).

Indian Batsman of the Year: Manoj Tiwary (Bengal, Rs. 1 lakh).

Indian Bowler of the Year: Ravichandran Ashwin (Tamil Nadu, Rs. 1 lakh).

Most Promising Youngster: Rohit Sharma (Mumbai, Rs. 1 lakh).

Lifetime Achievement Award: Rajinder Goel (Haryana, Rs. 1 lakh).
