Coast Guard anniversary fete

Kozhikode : To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Indian Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Station at Beypore organised a " walkathon on environment awareness" on Tuesday.

This was part of the week-long celebrations of the Beypore station. A painting contest for school children was conducted on Sunday.

Coast Guard personnel, school children, NCC cadets, Junior Red Cross and staff from Punjab National Bank participated in the event. The walkathon commenced from the Government Higher Secondary School at Meenchanda at 7.30 a.m. and concluded at the Coast Guard Station at Beypore at 9.30 a.m. The objective of the programme was to sensitise public about clean environment and prevent further degradation of environment assets.

The Indian Coast Guard is completing 30 years in the service of the nation. It was formed on February 1, 1977, with two frigates and five patrol vessels from Indian Navy. Today it has 76 ships and 45 aircrafts in its inventory.

The service is bestowed with the onerous responsibility of protecting the country's interest in maritime zones.
