`Move privilege motion against Railway Minister'

Staff Reporter

Mullappally inaugurates picketing

PALAKKAD: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and former Union Minister Mullappally Ramachandran has said that the Members of Parliament from Kerala should give notice for privilege motion against the Union Railway Minister if he has gone back on his assurance in Parliament on the bifurcation of Palakkad Railway Division.

Inaugurating the picketing of the Palakkad Railway Division office organised by the Youth Congress here on Tuesday, Mr. Ramachandran said that the MPs from Kerala were repeatedly claiming that the Railway Minister had assured them on the floor of the House that Palakkad Division would be protected in its present form.

He said that the Union Ministers from Kerala - Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed - had already taken up the matter with the Prime Minister and Railway Minister.

The Congress had taken up the issue with the Central Government and party high command, he said.

But the State Government led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) failed to take up the matter with the Union Ministers from Kerala to put up a joint effort to protect the Palakkad Railway Division, he alleged

Mr. Ramachandran said that an-all party delegation must go to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister.

He said that the bifurcation of the division would only cause a huge loss as additional charge to set up the proposed Salem Division.
