`Execute workers welfare act'

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: H.V. Swamy, state president, Karnataka Gaare Kooli Karmikara Sangha, and Nidugarahalli Siddappa, general secretary, appealed to the Government to implement the Karnataka Unorganised Workers Welfare Act and provide welfare measures to the workers.

According to them, they presented representations to the Chief Minister and to H.D. Revanna, PWD Minister, more than 15 times in the last one year but yet nothing has been done. They said the Act had been already implemented in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and the workers were getting death compensation, relief for injuries during work, loans for education to their children, loans for construction of houses, maternity allowance for women workers, and Rs. 300 pension to workers who crossed 60 years of age.

They appealed to the Government to follow Kerala and Tamil Nadu Governments in providing relief to them.
