SEEKING A BETTER DEAL: Members of Kannada Sena protesting in front of the Deputy Commissioners office in Gulbarga City on Tuesday against the order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

GULBARGA: The State unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday said that the organisations protesting against the judgement of the Cauvery River Water Dispute Tribunal should not do anything that would harm the interest of the State in the issue.

State Committee Member of the party Maruti Manpade said that the final verdict of the tribunal was not completely different from the interim order, and injustice had been done to the State in allotting water.

Mr. Manpade said that the State Government should immediately file a review petition before the tribunal or file a petition challenging the verdict in the Supreme Court. The Government should also explore the possibility of holding discussions with the riparian States to find an amicable solution to the vexed problem, he said.

Organising bandhs or indulging in violence against the order would not help in finding a solution to the issue. It would harm the interest of the State if the Government decides to file a petition challenging the order, he said.

Meanwhile, members of Kannada Sena took out a procession in the city shouting slogans against the tribunal's order and the Union Government for its alleged partisan approach towards the State in the issue.

Memorandum

They submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the district authorities.

They said that the order was against the interests of farmers in the Cauvery delta. The sena urged the Chief Minister to immediately file a petition in the court challenging the order. It also urged the Chief Minister to lead a delegation of members from all political parties and Kannada organisations to the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers to apprise them about the "injustice" done to the State.

Members of D.K. Shivakumar Abhimanigala Sangha also took out a procession in the city protesting against the order. They said that farmers in the delta would suffer if the order was implemented.

They submitted a memorandum addressed to the President , seeking his intervention in the issue.

They also condemned the alleged pro-Tamil Nadu approach of the Union Government.
