"Joint study group" talks

Nirupama Subramanian

ISLAMABAD: A team of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Central Bureau of Investigation is due to arrive here on Tuesday for talks with the Pakistan Federal Investigation Agency.

The "joint study group" discussions, to be held over Wednesday and Thursday, will focus on human trafficking, counterfeit currency and illegal immigration.

CBI Deputy-Inspector General P.V. Rama Shastry, CBI Superintendent of Police M.M. Oberoi, and Deputy-Director Ministry of Home Affairs Arvind Deep comprise the Indian delegation.

The "joint study group" is a follow-up of talks between the Indian Home Secretary and the Pakistan Interior Secretary last May in the third round of the composite dialogue process.

The last meeting between the FIA and Indian officials was held in March 2006, and the Home and Interior secretaries agreed to continue these talks.
