BANGALORE: The acting Chairman of the Legislative Council, N. Thippanna, adjourned the House for the day on Tuesday after making obituary references to U.T. Fareed, Ullal MLA, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, and 15 others, including the Bahujan Samaj Party leader Kanshiram, the Kannada writer Suryanarayana Chadaga, the scholar S.J. Nagalothi Math, the veteran journalist Y.K. Rajagopal and the dancer Padmini Rao. The House also paid tribute to Y. Ramachandra, Lingarajaiah, Manjappa Ullal, M. Basappa, Balavantarao Derao Patel and D. Halage Gowda (former MLAs), D. Naryana Das and Leelamma Shivananjappa (former MLCs), the journalist G.H. Raghavendra and the writer C. Hosabettu. The House assembled at 2 p.m. instead of the scheduled 12.15 p.m. as the Minister for Home and Parliamentary Affairs M.P. Prakash had convened a meeting with Opposition leaders to resolve the impasse arising out of the delay in holding the election for the post of Chairman.
