BANGALORE: The State Government has convened an all-party meeting on Wednesday to decide on the future course of action on the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal award.

The all-party meeting, which was scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed to Wednesday to enable political party leaders to attend the funeral of U.T. Fareed, Congress MLA.

Addressing presspersons after the adjournment of the Legislative Assembly, Home Minister M.P. Prakash said the Government's stance would be made known to the public after the all-party meeting on Wednesday. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy called on Governor T.N. Chaturvedi at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and discussed the tribunal award, he said.

Before the all-party meeting, the Government would study the tribunal award in detail and discuss its pros and cons with legal and irrigation experts, Mr. Prakash said.

The award says Karnataka has to release 192 tmcft water to Tamil Nadu annually. It has allotted 419 tmcft to Tamil Nadu, 270 tmcft to Karnataka, 30 tmcft to Kerala and 7 tmcft to Puducherry.

The situation in Bangalore and the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar was normal. Some pro-Kannada organisations called for a bandh in Chamarajanagar and T. Narsipura on Tuesday. The bandh was peaceful, he said.

Mr. Prakash said he had held an informal meeting with top police officials and Advocate-General Uday Holla.

Asked about law and order, he said barring some protests in Mandya district, the situation was normal. Policemen were keeping a close watch on the situation in Bangalore as also in Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts. Two battalions of Central forces and one battalion of the Home Guards had been deployed in sensitive areas in Bangalore, he said.

The Deputy Commissioners of the Cauvery basin districts had been instructed to decide on declaring holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday, Mr. Prakash said.

Few buses

Transport Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy said the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation was operating skeletal bus services between Bangalore and Mysore because of stray protests.
