Strict action promised

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister A.K. Antony has promised strict action against army personnel involved in the killing of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We will not tolerate human rights violations. We will take strict action against the guilty," Mr. Antony said on being asked about the reported involvement of specialised counter-insurgency battalions of the army in "Danderbal killings" of civilians.

The Minister said a probe had been ordered. Signs of the army's involvement, according to documents accessed by The Hindu , come a couple of months after the army released its doctrine for sub-optimal operations.
