CUTTACK: Disposing of a 19-year-old corruption case, the vigilance special judge of Bhubaneswar on Monday convicted a small saving officer of Bhubaneswar sub collector office and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for one year. The accused Purna Chandra Nayak was found guilty for demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 200 from one Sarat Patnaik in 1988. Naik had demanded the money to process Patnaik's application and appoint him as an agent of national savings scheme, said a press release here. The court held the accused guilty for the offence. Besides the RI, the court also slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on Nayak. The same court also adjudicating over another corruption case of 1997 convicted an electrical junior engineer Gangadhar Sahu of Jajpur district for demanding and accepting Rs 2000 from one person to provide domestic power supply connection, the release added. The court sentenced him to undergo RI for one year and asked him to pay a fine of Rs 5000.
