Rs. 55.4 lakh as incentive for milk producers

DKMUL to provide them aid

MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. (DKMUL) has decided to disburse Rs. 55.4 lakh from its profit to milk producers, and staff and secretaries of milk producers' cooperative societies, as an incentive.

The DKMUL, apart from providing technical assistance to dairying activities through the societies, has also taken steps to provide economic assistance to milk producers and their families, according to a press release from Kaup Diwakar Shetty, president of the DKMUL, here on Wednesday.

Cultural activities

The DKMUL had decided to take necessary steps for the socio-economic well being of farmers and their families by arranging cultural and endowment activities, and providing education facilities for the farmers' children, it said.

It had taken steps to register Milk Producers' Welfare Trust, and to set aside Rs. 10 lakh as grant for the trust.

The DKMUL had decided to set aside 25 paise for every litre of milk procured as an incentive from Thursday up to March 31, the release said. The amount would be Rs. 50,000 a day for 2 lakh litres of milk which the union intended to procure each day in the period.

Welfare measures

The DKMUL would also set aside Rs. 15 for every kilogramme of mineral mixture sold by it, Rs. 15 for every Nandini urea molasses brick and Rs. 40 on molasses brick plastic dispensers. It had also decided to set aside Rs. 5 lakh in the form of grant to set up a welfare trust for the employees of the societies, the release said.

Strengthening

The union was of the view that primary milk producers' cooperative societies had to be strengthened to ensure a stable future for it, the release added.
