Rift widening, says AIADMK chief

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Confrontation between the State Government and the High Court is increasing of late, All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa said on Tuesday.

Criticising Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy for his remarks on the judiciary, she said Mr. Veerasamy's speech at a function on Sunday amounted to insulting the judiciary.

She also criticised Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for "speaking in such a manner that endorsed the Minister's speech."

If a scenario arose wherein executive alone could function, disregarding laws and courts, it would invite dictatorship, she said.
