Workshop on higher education

Parents, academics, officials and representatives of NGOs to participate

CHENNAI : Nearly 90 student-delegates from all over India will participate in a two-day workshop on higher education to be held here on February 8 and 9.

Organised by Ethiraj College, the convention `Contemporary Issues on Higher Education' was aimed at making higher education more relevant and meaningful, said principal M. Thavamani.

Vice-principal Leela Abraham said the college was expecting 500 student delegates.

Organisers told mediapersons that they had received nearly 70 papers from various colleges in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The topics are `Uniformity and Standardisation of Education, Social Issues and Higher Education' and `Triumphs and Threats of Media and Technology.'

Madras University Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran will deliver the inaugural address.

Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudi will address delegates at the valedictory day function.

Other speakers include V.J. Philip, principal, Madras Christian College, K. Kuzhandhaivel, Chancellor, Avinasalingam Deemed University, Qudsia Gandhi, Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Treasuries and Accounts, Usha Titus, Registrar, IIT-Madras, Pradeep V. Philip, Inspector General of Police and Ranjini Manian, CEO, Global Adjustments.
