GUNTUR: The Vijayawada to Chennai Pinakini Express will travel via Guntur from April, MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao has said. At a meeting of MPs from Vijayawada and Guntur railway division region called by the SCR at Hyderabad on Tuesday the SCR decided to divert the train between Vijayawada and Tenali via New Guntur railway station. The proposals put forward by Mr. Sambasiva Rao in his constituency were considered. The meeting in principle decided to divert the Machilipatnam-Manmad Express via Guntur for Shirdi passengers, the Chirala-Tirupati train would be extended to Guntur; and Secunderabad-Vijayawada Inter-City Express extended to Guntur, Mr. Sambasiva Rao said. Travellers of the Delta Fast Passengers also had something to cheer about as the SCR decided to revert to old timings as there were many complaints. The authorities, however, expressed inability to divert the Ahmedabad-Chennai Navajeevan Express, Kakinada-Bangalore Seshadri Express, Vijayawada-Chennai Janashatapdi Express, Tamil Nadu and Kerala Express trains until the Guntur-Krishna Canal railway line doubling was completed. The MP also demanded re-introduction of the Machilipatnam-Goa Fast Passenger as it had historical importance. The officials positively responded to his demand for constructing the eighth platform on Arundelpet side.
