Student found dead

Coimbatore: A 22-year-old student was found dead in a college hostel here on Tuesday.

According to the police, Nithyajit, hailing from Madurai, was studying in an engineering college in Alandurai and was staying at the hostel.

The boy's hostel mates found Nithyajit hanging and informed the college authorities and the police.

The police have recovered a death note. Investigations are on.

Woman faints

Sulochana (45) of Thenammpalayam in Tirupur who came to the office of the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, on State Bank Road on Tuesday afternoon to give a petition regarding a civil dispute fainted on the premises.

The police suspect that the woman must have consumed cow dung powder in a bid to commit suicide.

Man knocked down

A two-wheeler rider was knocked down by a speeding tempo on LIC Road near VOC Park on Tuesday evening, the police said. Based on eyewitness accounts, the police suspect that a tempo from Namakkal hit the rider. The injured was admitted to a private hospital and his identity was yet to be ascertained. The Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case.
