An insight into the world of science

An exhibition that reflected the ways in which the present generation approached science and technology.

A science exhibition organised a few days ago at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, reflected the innovative ways in which the present generation approached science and technology.

The exhibition was a thematic one, with each class from class V to IX and XI handling a specific theme — nature, pollution, energy conservation, space, human body, electronics, etc. Joseph J, a class VI student, came up with an effective mode of waste disposal. He had this to say: "The recent garbage problems cropped up due to ineffective waste management and disposal. This inspired me to work on new ideas. We hope planners will devise better means of clearing garbage."

Principal Maya Mohan said as compared to previous years, the exhibition was better organised this year, was more concise and to the point. "It was amazing to watch the kids showcase their scientific skills, imagination and creativity, by venturing into new vistas of knowledge. The event turned out to be one that brought out the latent creativity of many, while for the others, it was an opportunity to make their dreams come true — to design a world of their own."

Though the Internet and encyclopaedia too were sources of information, the students had to put in a lot of effort to make realistic models. School Vice-Principal Radha Divakaran said such exhibitions would go a long way in boosting students' observation skills and inquisitiveness.

C. Gopalakrishnan Nair, judge for the event and the district coordinator of the Energy Conservation Club, said the exhibits were of good standard. Parents too turned up to see the exhibits.

The event provided an opportunity for students to put into practice what they had learned and read from books.
