Kathakali club announces awards

KOCHI: The Ernakulam Kathakali Club has selected Kathakali maestro Sadanam Narayanan Namboodiri, popularly known as Naripatta, and Maddalam exponent Kalamandalam Sankara Warriar for Kalahamsa Puraskaram and Thouryathrika Puraskaram respectively.

Announcing the awards here on Tuesday, A.D. Krishnan Asan, president of the Club, said club's 48th anniversary programme would be held on February 9 and 10 at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Hall. On the occasion, the awards - Rs.3,001, memento and a citation - would be given away.

The anniversary celebrations would bring some of the leading Kathakali artistes to the city for performances throughout the night.
