Warehousing Corporation terminates services of 233

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Kerala State Warehousing Corporation has terminated services of 233 persons who were allegedly appointed illegally during the previous UDF rule.

According to a press release from the Corporation, the decision in this regard was taken by the Board of the Corporation at a meeting held in November.

Those terminated were 99 Assistants, five drivers, 11 assistants on contract, one assistant engineer and 107 Class IV (contract) personnel. There were only 12 vacancies for the post of assistants and ten were appointed under dying-in-harness scheme, which left only two vacancies. The Corporation had appointed 99 persons in this category in March, that too when the code of conduct of Election Commission for the State Legislative Assembly came into effect. The appointments did not have the approval of the Board, said the release.

The previous Government had also appointed a mechanical engineer to the Corporation. Actually, the requirement was for a civil engineer.

Only one vacancy for a driver's post existed, against which five were appointed. The appointment of all the 11 assistants on contract were found to be illegal and in case of Class IV category, recruitment should be done only through Employment Exchange. This rule was ignored while appointing 107 persons.
