Woman kills daughter, attempts suicide

Husband's alcoholism stated to be reason for the step

BANGALORE: A woman allegedly killed her two-year-old daughter and attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of her house in Magadi Road police station limits on Monday night.

Disha (24), who suffered severe head injuries, is battling for her life in hospital. Before jumping, she slashed herself all over the body with a blade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra said.

Disha is the wife of Sajivan of Kerala, who runs a tea stall-cum-condiments shop at Cholurpalya here. For the past seven months the couple and their daughter Nandana were living in a rented house on 14th Cross, Cholurpalya.

When Sajivan came home around 9.30 p.m. on Monday, Disha did not open the door. When he broke open the door, Disha pushed him aside and ran out. Sajivan saw his daughter lying unconscious. Even as he was about take Nandana to a hospital, Disha leapt from the second floor of the house.

Sajivan rushed his seriously injured wife and daughter to a nearby hospital. The toddler was declared brought dead by the doctors. Disha had apparently strangled the baby, Mr. Sharathchandra said.

Sajivan is in a state of shock. Preliminary investigation revealed that Disha had problems with his alcoholism. The couple had reportedly quarrelled over the issue Monday night. The Magadi Road police have registered a case.

Shop burgled

Burglars struck at a shop on Magadi Road on Monday night and fled with 50 mobile phones and a large number of chargers worth lakhs of rupees.

The police said the thieves entered Prasad's shop on 8th Cross, Magadi Road, by cutting the window grills. A case has been registered.

Cars damaged

A car was set on fire and another stoned in unrelated incidents on Monday night.

Four men stopped J.B. Aradhya when was driving near the ISKCON temple on Chord Road around 9 p.m. They pulled him out of the car and set it on fire, destroying it completely.

The Mahalakshmi Layout police, who have registered a case, suspect rivalry to be the motive.

In the other incident, vandals smashed Govindaraj's car parked in front of his house around midnight in Shakambarinagar in Jayanagar police station limits. Police have registered a case.
