Woman robbed on Vikas Marg

NEW DELHI: Two unidentified men allegedly robbed a woman of Rs.8 lakhs on Vikas Marg here on Tuesday.

According to the police, complainant Sarita Gupta had parked her car near Heera Sweets on Vikas Marg and gone to the office of a chartered accountant. A bag containing Rs.8 lakh in cash was kept in the car. A man lured the driver out of the car saying a 10-rupee note was lying on the road. When the driver opened the door, another man made off with the bag.

Ms. Gupta was initially carrying Rs.14 lakhs with her. She had deposited Rs.6 lakhs in a bank a few hours before the incident and was on her way to make payment to a party. She told the police that the duo had been trailing her from outside the bank.

Shahtoosh shawls seized

NEW DELHI: Nine shawls made of wool of the endangered Tibetan antelope have been seized from a resident of Srinagar by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. Mohammad Yunus was arrested at Lajpat Nagar with the Shahtoosh shawls on Monday. The shawls are valued at several lakhs.

The skin of the animal is smuggled from Tibet to Srinagar to make shawls.

Two-year-old boy run over by bus

NEW DELHI: A two-year-old boy was run over by a bus at Okhla here on Monday.

According to the police, Papan was playing near his house in Jeevan Jyoti Colony in the morning and strayed on to the road nearby. He was run over by a chartered bus.

The police have impounded the bus and registered a case against the driver who is absconding.

Painting exhibition and dance competition

NEW DELHI: A painting exhibition and folk dance competition for children was organised at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Tuesday to mark the 60th anniversary of Indo-Russian diplomatic relations.

Former Nehru Bal Samiti president T. R. Gupta lauded the Samiti's efforts to strengthen Indo-Russian relations through cultural exchange programmes.

Property tax offices open on Saturdays

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to keep all the offices of its Property Tax Department open on Saturdays also up to March 31. They will function from 10 a.m. to 5-30 p.m., barring holidays and the second Saturday of each month.

The decision has been taken to help property tax payers clear their dues.

Demonstration by DU students

NEW DELHI: Delhi University students staged a demonstration outside the Vice-Chancellor's office here on Tuesday demanding an immediate end of the ongoing strike by the karamchari union claiming that it was causing inconvenience to them.

"The strike by the Delhi University and College Karamchari Union has badly affected the students, especially because exams are round the corner," said Delhi University Students' Union vice-president Vikas Dahiya.
