Spree of letter bombs

Hasan Suroor

LONDON: Police are puzzled over the continuing spree of letter bomb explosions after another letter "exploded'' on Wednesday, this time in the offices of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea, Wales. One woman was slightly injured and taken to hospital. This was the third such explosion in as many days, and police suspect that there could be a link with someone targeting motoring-related agencies. Home Secretary John Reid described the attacks as "worrying'' but cautioned against speculation, saying, "It is important we allow police to get on with their investigation without undue speculation". Motoring organisations also expressed concern and security at offices dealing with vehicle-related activities was stepped up. Experts said that whoever was behind the attacks had professional expertise to make explosive devices, and was sufficiently angry to resort to this kind of action.
