NEW DELHI: A consistent Shruti Khanna putted her way to the third title in the Billoo Sethi Golf challenge trophy thereby qualifying by a distance for the four-day match-play event of the 90th all-India ladies amateur golf championship at the Delhi Golf Club course here on Wednesday. Shruti followed her opening day 74 with a three-over 75 for a two-round aggregate of 149. She was seven strokes ahead of Laverry Kumar (77, 79), the 14-year-old three handicapper. Shruti had just one birdie, on the par-4 fourth hole before bogeying the seventh and ninth. She opened with a disastrous double bogey on the par-4 10th hole, which created problems for many on the second day. Shruti then held out and played all pars.
Meghna is third
Meghna Bal, who shot 82 on the opening day, got her game together to bring in a 76 and finish third. Two Zimbabweans, Jessie Nyakatawa and Alex Bell, just squeezed into the top 16 in the gold category (handicap 0-12) and qualified for the match-play event. Shruti plays Alex while Laverry takes on Jessie, in the top and bottom half respectively. In the India-Zimbabwe match for the Agarwal international trophy, India won easily. India, represented by Shruti, Meghna and Vaishavi Sinha, had an aggregate gross of 465 while Zimbabwe, comprising Adi Campbell, Jessie and Aulia Alfazema, had a total of 557.
