Bangalore: The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC) will disseminate information on special schemes to the grassroots through gram panchayats and religious institutions at taluk and village levels, Anwar Manappadi, chairman of the corporation, has said.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Manappadi said he knew that there was lack of awareness about schemes meant for minority communities even in the bureaucracy.

The corporation would, therefore, use official as well as other channels to reach information to the poorest of poor families for whom the schemes were meant, he pointed out.

The exercise of sending out information on various schemes to masjids, churches, gurdwaras and other religious places would start within a week, he added.

His main thrust as chairman of KMDC would be on "bringing minorities to the mainstream rather than indulge in appeasement," Mr. Manappadi said.

Every party in power since Independence had "indulged in appeasement for vote-bank politics", but statistics proved that these had not helped the minority communities, he said.

They now fared worse than in 1947, both on education and employment fronts, he said.

The emphasis should be on decreasing the "ever widening gap" between communities, he added.

Praised

Mr. Manapadi, who is a BJP leader, praised Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who holds the Finance portfolio, for making a "huge financial allocation" to the commission in the last budget.
