SPREADING FRAGRANCE: The set of four stamps featuring roses released by the Department of Posts in Bangalore on Wednesday.
BANGALORE: Who can resist getting a letter from a loved one? Especially if that someone is really special. With exquisite timing what with Valentine's Day round the corner, the Department of Posts has released a set of four stamps featuring roses, the symbol of love and beauty. But what is exceptional about these government issues is their fragrance. The stamps are infused with the heady scent of roses, enough to melt the most unyielding heart. Their aroma is guaranteed to linger on the stamps for a year.
Availability
The stamps, released on Wednesday, will be available to the public from Thursday at all the philatelic bureaus and counters across Karnataka in the denomination of Rs. 15 and Rs. 5. This set of four stamps featuring roses follows the beautiful one having the fragrance of sandalwood, which was released on December 13, 2006. Sources in department told The Hindu that this set was being released after the sandalwood stamp became a success. India is not the first to bring out a perfumed stamp. Bhutan and Switzerland had released those with chocolate fragrance, the official said. The roses set showcases the beauty of our own varieties. There is Bhim, a hybrid tea rose; Delhi Princess, a popular India-bred variety; Jawahar, a variety suited for flower bed, and Neelam, brought out by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. A brochure has also been released along with the stamps containing exhaustive details on roses and their history. Printed at the Indian Security Press, Nasik, these special edition stamps are collectors' items as they are released only once. Can any email beat that?
