NEW DELHI: The Union Government on Wednesday decided to form a "search committee" to select a new Chairman for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) following the scrapping of the appointment of the present incumbent, R.S. Sharma, on Tuesday. The formal announcement of the new "search committee" is expected in the next few days. The choice may not be from the organisation itself, according to highly placed sources. The committee will be authorised to even look for options from the private sector. "The committee will not restrain anybody from applying for the post and even Mr. Sharma is open to apply afresh for his permanent appointment in the present capacity," a senior official remarked. It is also understood that the Secretary (Petroleum and Natural Gas) and some experts from outside will be part of the new committee. The entire process will be completed within three months.
