NEW DELHI: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has extended an official invitation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the birth centenary of its leader M.S. Golwalkar here on February 18. RSS zonal chief Bajrang Lal Gupta, in reply to a question whether the Congress president was invited or not, said: "Yes, we have invited her and heads of all other political parties, besides top academics, writers, sportspersons and celebrities from different walks of life to this programme, whose central theme will be social equality." Among others who will be part of this programme are Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan and Ayodhya movement leader Ritambhara. Vajpayee not in speakers' list Interestingly, the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is on the celebrations committee, is not on the list of speakers. Representatives of a whole range of castes and backward groups would also participate in the programme, to be held on the Burari grounds in northwest Delhi. This was part of the strategy to reach out to disadvantaged sections. Leaders of various sects and religions were also being invited.
