Staff Reporter
CHENNAI
: The Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, N. Balaraman, agreed to consider the demands of the students as per university procedures.
He announced the decision at the Veterinary College's annual day on Monday.
More "ward hours"
The students had demanded more "ward hours" that would provide them hands-on experience.
Currently, they watch video films of surgeries but do not get an opportunity to do surgeries. The students were not allowed to touch animals following a ban to prevent cruelty to animals.
More stipend sought
They had also sought more stipend, training opportunities abroad and opportunities at campus interviews for new graduates.
Dr. Balaraman said students should have an opinion of their problems if they wanted solutions to them.
He released the college annual issue and distributed prizes to students who participated in the various events held during the year.
Sarada Nambi Arooran, retired professor of Salem Government Arts College, said the college was a platform for students to gain experience, self-confidence, perseverance, value of teamwork and self-respect.
She entertained her audience with a speech that was sprinkled with stories and examples from her life.
Dean of the college Lalitha John and head of Microbiology Department V. Purushothaman also spoke.
