Hyderabad: Urdu daily `Siasat' is organising a two-day pictorial exhibition on February 10 and 11 to highlight the contribution of Muslims in the country's freedom struggle. The exhibition is being held at Bajabar Function Hall, Etebar Chowk, to mark the 150th anniversary of the 1857 Mutiny. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor, and Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, Managing Editor, `Siasat', told presspersons here on Wednesday that about 28,000 Muslims were martyred in the freedom struggle but not much was known about them. The younger generation was totally unaware of the role played by Muslims against the British imperialism.
Books planned
"We propose to record the community's contribution and bring out books in English," Mr. Khan said. He said old pictures of those who took active part in the freedom struggle were being collected from all over the country for display at the exhibition. The exhibits would also highlight the role of Muslim women. Mr. Khan regretted that though the Muslims had paid through their lives for the country's freedom but now they were being killed in riots. They were yet to get a fair share in the country's development. The exhibition would be taken around various districts and also in the neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra.
