NAGPUR: A fresh scandal threatens cricket with the police here claiming that they have taped a telephonic conversation between a West Indies player and a bookie during which he gave out information on the batting line-up for the one-dayer against India on January 31. Deputy Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the player gave out information on the batting line-up but "we have no evidence of financial commitment made." Mr. Kumar said that before the Nagpur ODI, the police had concrete evidence that the player was in touch with the bookie. He gave certain team details, which were supposed to be confidential. The details included the bowling order, the team members and certain other information.
Report sent
Mr. Kumar said that Nagpur Commissioner of Police had sent a report to the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Shashank Manohar, and to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the International Cricket Council on Wednesday evening. He said the Nagpur police offered their assistance to the Board if it needed it for inquiry. "We have no information about fixing the match. We have team information being passed. There were certain promises made but we cannot reveal them now."
