Major shake-up of police top brass

60 IPS officers, including SPs of five districts, transferred or promoted

HYDERABAD: In a major shake-up of the police top brass, 60 IPS officers from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to Additional Director-General of Police were transferred or promoted by the State Government on Wednesday.

The exercise led to the transfer of SPs of five districts. The new SPs are -- B.L. Sujatha Rao (Nizamabad), Vineet Brijlal (Prakasam), T.V. Sashidhar Reddy (Chittoor), Charu Sinha (Mahbubnagar) and Y. Gangadhar (Karimnagar). Among the SPs who have been transferred is Charu Sinha, the first woman SP of Chittoor who was posted recently. Mr. Devendra Singh Chauhan, who served for two years as Karimnagar SP, has been shifted to the newly created post of SP, Intelligence, Chief Minister's Special Group.

According to orders issued by the Chief Secretary, the five Inspector-Generals of Police -- K. Durga Prasad, A. K. Khan, Vivek Dube, J.V. Ramudu and R. P. Meena --have been promoted as Additional Director-Generals of Police. Mr. Dube, who formed part of the CBI's team that probed the murder of Paritala Ravi, MLA, will look after Welfare. Mr. Durga Prasad has been retained in Grey Hounds, the anti-naxalite wing.

Mr. A. K. Khan, the Additional Commissioner (Traffic), Hyderabad, has been promoted and shifted as Director General of Fire Services. He replaces Mr. Alok Srivastava who has been shifted to Police Housing Corporation as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director). Mr. Ramudu, IG of Warangal region, has been promoted as Additional Director General (Organisations).

Mr. Meena has been promoted and posted as Additional DG, Drug Control in place of Dr. D.T. Naik, who has been shifted as Additional DG (Training). Tejdeep Kaur Menon, IG,Welfare, will replace Mr. Meena as Controller, Legal Metrology.
