It was a proud moment for the 9 (K) Naval NCC Unit as it was selected for the Prime Minister's trophy for the `Most Enterprising Unit' at the Republic Day Parade 2007. The unit, under the NCC Group Headquarters, Calicut, bagged the award for the pulling and sailing expedition conducted by it from October 16 to 27, 2006, from Kozhikode to Kuttiyadi and back. The selection was based on the distance, duration, number of boats, interaction with the local people during the expedition and gravity of adventure involved. The appreciation of the district medical authorities for the unit's chikungunya awareness rally was conveyed to the Deputy Director General of Kerala and Lakshadweep NCC Directorate. Rajan M. Thodi, Commanding Officer of the 9 (K) Naval NCC Unit, led the expedition. The unit also plans to conduct a similar expedition this year through the Chaliyar here. An awareness rally on global warming will also be combined with the programme.
