Drawing inspiration from the rich mural traditions of the State, K.R. Babu got up a painting exhibition at the Durbar Hall Arts Centre which will conclude on Wednesday. There are 15 paintings which depict the various moods of Nature and the feminine form. It is a riot of colours and the paintings provide a two-dimension effect because of the colours chosen for the subjects. There is an empty space in the canvas and the nuances of various shades are aptly depicted to bring the maximum effect for the viewers. He is liberal in the use of `Indian Red' and ` Yellow Ochre' which provide an interesting and lively backdrop to the paintings. Mr. Babu hailing from Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district has won the Kerala Lalitakala Akademy award in 1996 and 2000 and also the junior fellowship of the Union Government. He had participated in nearly 20 group shows and conducted several solo exhibitions in the northern parts of the State. He is now associated with the Department of Mural Painting at Malayala Kalagramam at Mahe.
