New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the transfer of the Hindi poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case from a Lucknow court to a special court in Dehra Dun, Uttarakand. The former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani are the key accused. A Bench, comprising Justices Ashok Bhan and Dalveer Bhandari, said the petitioner, Madhumita's younger sister Nidhi Shuklahad made out a prima facie case for transfer of the trial outside the State. It requested the Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court to appoint a special judge to try the case on a daily basis and complete the trial within six months. The parties should not seek adjournments. Jail authorities in Uttar Pradesh were directed to shift the accused to Dehra Dun. All case records should be transferred to the Dehra Dun district judge in two weeks. The Bench said the special judge would decide the case uninfluenced by the apex court's observations on this petition as well as while cancelling bail to Mr. Tripathi and his wife. They had been granted bail on April 29 and July 8, 2004.
