HUBLI: The Federation of University and College Teachers' Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK) has urged the State Government to transfer the Commissioner of Collegiate Education. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, B.S. Makal, General Secretary of FUCTAK, alleged that the Commissioner of Collegiate Education M.V. Jayanti was apathetic towards the problems of college teachers and had failed to implement decisions taken during the high-level meeting on higher education chaired by Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy five months ago. He said the powers of the director of collegiate education had been divested and the functioning of the collegiate education had become "centralised", because of which inordinate delays were taking place in the implementation of decisions taken by the Higher Education Minister. Mr. Makal said college teachers had been left out while giving interim relief to government employees and urged the Government to take steps in this regard. He said several of the demands of college teachers were pending before the Collegiate Education Department. In order to highlight the problems being faced by college teachers in the State and to demand the transfer of Ms. Jayanti, FUCTAK members would stage a dharna before the office of the Directorate of Collegiate Education in Bangalore on February 19, he said.
