PROTEST: Members of the Rashtriya Hindu Sena stopping the Nizamuddin Express at Hubli railway station on Thursday protesting against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

DHARWAD: The twin cities on Thursday saw protests from two different organisations condemning the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged "Urulu Seve" here on Thursday and staged rasta roko for a while in protest against the final award of the tribunal. Vedike activists first staged rasta roko at Jubilee Circle and raised slogans against the tribunal. They alleged that the tribunal's award was partisan and was a result of political pressure from Tamil Nadu.

Then the activists including vedike office-bearers such as Bhimashankar and others staged "Urulu Seve" condemning the award. However the "Urulu Seve" was cut short with the intervention of the police.

The police who were on bandobast duty asked the protesters to conclude their protest but the vedike activists wanted to continue the "Urulu Seve".

The police stopped the protestors from continuing their agitation and took them into custody. They were later released. Members of Rashtriya Hindu Sena staged a rail roko at the Hubli station protesting against the tribunal's decision.

The protestors stopped a New Delhi-bound Nizamuddin Express on Thursday evening for a while as part of the agitation. Krishna Gandagalekar and others led the agitation.
