"Bring out the genius in your child"
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala spent time recently watching a video presentation of a programme called `My Smart Baby', that seeks to train mothers in how to bring out what its creators call `the untapped genius' in a child less than one year old.
Mothers in the programme used flashcards, among other techniques, to make the babies from 3 months to 48 months, learn words and count numbers well before they started formal schooling.
Responding to the presentation, the Governor recalled an interesting incident he witnessed in the U.S. 30 years ago.
He had visited a camp organised for Sikhs settled in the U.S. where he saw a youth reciting holy hymns before a dozen babies.
The young trainer had said the kids would just absorb all these and be able to recite them later.
The Governor felt the `My smart Baby programme' was something similar.
The programme is offered by SuperKidz, a multinational kids education organisation, headquartered at Chennai.
