BELLARY: Chidambara Rao Jambe, director Rangayana Mysore, felt that Girish Karnad, recipient of the Jnanpith Award, reacted in haste over the verdict given by the Cauvery tribunal. Responding to questions by presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Jambe stated that he was not aware in what context Mr. Karnad gave his reaction. He said Girish Karnad could have waited for the complete report of the tribunal before making comments on the issue. Mr. Karnad had reportedly said that the State had no other option but to release water to Tamil Nadu as per the directions.
World Kannada Meet
Mr. Jambe said that in view of the postponement of the World Kannada Meet to be held in Belgaum after the verdict was announced, Rangayana had postponed its Rangayaatre, which was to be flagged off from Bellary. Four dramas, Beechi Bullets, Kathegala Kanaja, Poli Kitti and Krishnegoudana Aane were to be staged as part of the "Rangayaatre" he said. He said that a unit of Rangayana was likely to start functioning in Dharwad from June this year. He said the new unit would function as a training-cum-performance centre.
Budgetary allocation
To a question, he said that the State Government was yet to respond favourably to the proposal put forth by Rangayana to provide budgetary allocation for conducting its theatre activities. "In the absence of budgetary provision, it would be difficult for the Rangayana to plan its programmes and activities and will have to make alternative arrangements to raise funds. In order to avoid the procedural wrangles and also plan the year's programme we have been urging the Government to earmark certain amount in its budget. We need at least Rs. 50 lakh every year in addition to the salary component to plan and implement the activities", he said.
