Teachers' federation up in arms against DEO

Correspondent

Threatens joint action with support of all

Kakinada: The district unit of the Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation has threatened to launch joint action programme enlisting the support of all teachers' organisations against what it called the `highhanded' behaviour of District Educational Officer P. Parvati.

At a press conference here on Thursday, UTF district president K. George Victor, general secretary K. Sattiraju and secretary Ch.V. Ramana alleged that Ms. Parvati, ever since she joined as the DEO a couple of months ago, devoting her time only on holding review meetings and harassing teachers on one pretext or the other. They further alleged that the DEO had constituted 12 special teams with subject teachers, MEOs and Deputy Educational Officers and in the name of division-wise review meetings deployed as many as 240 teachers for the sake of supervision.

Deploying teachers for supervisory duties had adversely affected the teaching in schools, they pointed out.

`Personal criticism'

The leaders alleged that the DEO was indulging in personal criticism abusing teachers during the review meeting.

They hoped that the DEO would view things in proper perspective and mend her ways.
