Ongole
Special Correspondent
ONGOLE: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan (KVS) would like to set up Central school at Ongole from April 1 next year if the district administration can allot suitable land for the school and staff quarters, according to Chandrapida Neelap, KVS assistant commissioner for Andhra region. Mr. Neelap, who came here on Thursday and inspected two sites proposed for the purpose -- one at Maddipadu and other at Dasarajupalle - told newspersons that the first site may not be suitable on safety grounds. Stating that the school does not have any transport facility, he felt that the location should be a nearby place for the convenience of students. The district administration should allot at least 10 acres and 50 per cent of staff quarters free of cost besides temporary accommodation to open the school.
41 schools
He said that KVS was running 41 Central schools in the State -- 18 in Hyderabad, nine in Visakhaptnam and two in Vijayawada. It sanctioned six more schools for Warangal, Khammam, Eluru, Kadapa, Venkatagiri, Vizianagaram and they would start functioning from April 1. It established central schools in all districts except Prakasam, Adilabad, Mehaboobnagar, Karimnagar and Nizamabad. The KVS earned a name for imparting quality education from class 1 to 12.
Criteria
It can set up a school where at least 1,000 Central Government employees stay. The rule can be relaxed to 250 in special focus areas. One such school was opened at Venkatagiri.
