Rajahmundry: Amalapuram MP G.V. Harshakumar on Thursday addressed a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi on the "injustice" meted out to his group in the selection of candidates for the municipal corporation elections.

He also complained about a few leaders, including Vundavalli Arunakumar, MP, R. Suryaprakasha Rao, MLA, and Jakkampudi Ramamohna Rao, Minister, for alleged discrepancies in the distribution of party ticket. Releasing a copy of the letter to the press here, Mr. Harshakumar, along with Ramineedu Murali, who resigned as City Congress president on Wednesday, and Dokala Murali, PCC member, alleged that the selection of candidates was made "under influence of money."

Apart from the selection committee appointed by the PCC, the Minister and the MLA had included nine other members as special invitees to undertake the process. Some 11 members selected the candidates (excluding Mr. Harshakumar, Mr. Ramineedu Murali and Mr. Dokala Murali). Mr. Harshakumar said that he had sought 10 seats for his associates but settled for five seats and two co-option members on the advice of PCC observer Danam Nagender. He, however, charged the rival group with changing the names of three candidates in the eleventh hour - P. Srinivasa Yadav, who had been serving the party for 15 years, Rehana, who represents the minorities, and B. Madhu, a functionary from the BCs. Mr. Ramineedu Murali and Mr. Dokala Murali alleged that some of those selected by the panel were facing criminal charges. In 26th division, TDP activist M. Symala Rao was given ticket instead of senior Congress leader V. Muralidhar, they said.
