Loyola College (Chennai) wins title

Tirunelveli: Loyola College (Chennai) lifted the Rev. Fr. Rajanayagam Trophy defeating Sourashtra College (Madurai) 59-54 in the last match of the semifinal round robin league of the State-level Platinum inter-engineering college basketball tournament organised by St. Xavier's College at the college hostel ground, Palayamkottai, on Thursday.

The results (League): Loyola College 59 (Parthiban 18, Vinoth 16) bt Sourashtra College 54 (Anand 17, Arthi Ganesh 14); Sethu Institute of Technology 66 (Bharani 19, Sathish 15) bt St. Xavier's College 42 (Deepan 18); Loyola College 58 (Arun Kumar 16) bt St. Xavier's College 31 (Anand Prabhu 14); Sourashtra College 73 (Arthi Gnaesh 26) bt Sethu Institute of Technology 70 (Bharani 24) in extra time. (Full time score 63-63).

Donaldo excels

P. Donaldo of S.B.O.A. Matriculation HSS (Nagamalai) bagged a double by winning the 100m and Long jump in the boys' section (VIII Standard) of the World Beaters Talent Spotting athletics meet for Madurai North Educational District Schools at MGR Race course stadium on Thursday.

The results: VIII Std: 100m: P. Donaldo (SBOA MHSS, Nagamalai); 200m: G. Spane Royasir (SBOA); 400m: G. Gauthaman (SBOA); Long jump: P. Donaldo; High jump: M. Karthikeyaraja (GHSS, Sholavandan); Shot put: M. Thirupathy (KACA HDD, Bharathinagar).

State U-9 chess

The 20th Dolphin Trophy Tamil Nadu State under-9 chess championship for boys and girls, sponsored by Nagercoil Round Table 176 and organised by Kanyakumari District Chess Association, will get underway at A.S. Thangavel Kalayana Mandapam, Nagercoil on Saturday.

More than 125 boys and girls will be participating in the championship, which concludes on Feb. 16.

Abdul Rahim sparkles

An unbeaten 77 by Abdul Rahim and a half century by Balasubramanian (51) helped Arulmigu Palaniandavar Polytechnic College (Palani) defeat P.S.N.A. College of Engineering by 22 runs in the Dindigul district colleges league for RVS Trophy at PSNA College ground, Dindigul, on Thursday.

The scores: A.P.A. Polytechnic College (Palani) 164 for seven in 23 overs (M. Abdul Rahim 77 n.o., Balasubramanian 51) bt PSNA CET 142 for nine in 23 overs (P. Dayanithi 52).
